OUR estate WINERY

Picture
Come experience our winery and vineyard at SpringGate. We are family owned and located on 60 acres of farmland between the rolling hills of Lancaster County and Blue Mountain, near Harrisburg. We are in Lower Paxton township at the intersection of Interstate 83 and 81.

A warm welcome awaits you at our tasting room, patios, and grounds. The property dates back to the Revolutionary War and is complete with artifacts from the Indians who roamed it and used its natural springs before then. The property incorporates beautiful fields, streams, orchards, vineyards, and wildlife. The farm has been owned by only three families since the 1740's and has been a haven for many - we like to think of it as our little patch of Eden.

We started growing wine grapes at SpringGate in 2010 following the successful establishment of our sister vineyard in Northern Virginia in 2003, North Gate Vineyard. Whether you prefer dry wines, crisp semi-sweet, or sweet and hard cider or sparkling wines, we have something to accommodate you. In addition, our farm craft brewery, established in 2015, brews fine craft beers to enjoy by glass or flight.

If you can't visit us in person, you can still order our wines online for pick-up, or shipping to PA and select areas of MD via UPS.

Our Tasting patio

Our Covered Patio is the perfect spot to kick back and relax, or reserve for a private event! With plenty of seating available, this area is attached to the main barn, but is its own space providing you with a sense of privacy.

OUR CHAMPAGNE and wine flight bar

We love to produce sparkling wines and ciders, and we have them both in bottles and on tap. Come and enjoy one of our sparkling wines and ciders on tap.   In addition, wine flights are also available at the bar.

BARN, PATIOS, COURTYARDS,
TENTS & GROUNDS

The best description of the barn and environs is "timeless".  The white barn, green grass and trees, brown tree trunks, and the blue/brown hues of limestone and fieldstone, carefully assembled in the 18th century, create a familiar, yet rare, motif integrated into a bustling township at the intersection of two interstates.

The winery and tasting room use the bottom floor of the barn, with the other floors reserved for office space and private events.  The western most portion of the land during open hours provides the winery with a mixture of indoor and outdoor space.

Like many vineyards and farm breweries, we have some simple rules, that including restrictions on bringing any liquid onto the site, as well as no pets. Additionally while we are a family friendly place, we have some requirements for minors that are available here.

THE WINERY

Picture
With 20 years of wine making experience, and with consulting winemakers Vicki and Mark Fedor of North Gate Vineyard, we are producing wines on the estate.  Our wines tend to be less oaky in character than those that are oaked (such as Cabernet Franc) and originated in France and are known for this style.  These French vinifera, or French Hybrids, are barreled in French Oak as they were originally in the Old World.

THE VINEYARD

Picture
Based on our experiences in Virginia, our understanding of our terrior (a French word meaning microclimate), which is tucked against the Blue Mountain, and other factors, we have planted 12 acres of grapes we believe are suitable for consistently producing good wines.  We also source grapes from Pennsylvania and New York to round out our wine offerings.  We grow everything from American Hybrids to French Hybrids to the classic French offerings like Merlot and Cabernet Franc.  Our ultimate goal is to establish a collection of great Estate Wines, whether they be for a casual picnic or for the most formal dinner.

OUR BREWERY

We opened our artisan brewery in June of 2015 and generally have 10 to 12 small batch artisan beers on tap.  It is currently open Wednesdays through Sundays. You can find further information on its website or facebook.
